Café Sjakk Matt
The original Café Sjakk Matt was the first place in Oslo to use a “C” in "Café". It is one of the truest hipster establishments from the eighties that used to be open 23 hours a day, only to close for one hour to clean. It is still popular after all these years and perfect for food and drinks before or after the cinema.

In 2009, Café Sjakk Matt got a total makeover, and in 2011, the new and second addition, Café Sjakk Matt (Tinghuset), opened.

Our concept continued the interior design scheme developed by our Marius Brandl in 2009 (then working for RISS). The aesthetic is a mix of a Norwegian cottage, beautiful mystic forest, and chess. "Sjakk matt" is the Norwegian word for "Check Mate".

The entire interior was gut renovated, and we worked with large wall murals and natural materials, to add warmth and a welcoming feel to the space. Ultimately, we created a place where people can relax and enjoy themselves.
